2-Stroke Diesel Engine Power Plant

2-stroke low speed diesel engines are used for base load power generation in large utilities or in Independent Power Producer (IPP) plants. 2-stroke diesel engines are ideal for power plants of up to the 400 MW range.

The 2-stroke engine construction is based on a very robust design including cross head and stuffing box, which ensures complete isolation between the combustion chamber and the lubricating oil and thus prevents contamination of the lubricating oil.

The low speed combined with the 2-stroke principle results in longer combustion time, which enables the lowest grades of fuel and even off-spec fuels to be fully combusted.

The following features characterize BWSC’s 2-stroke diesel engine power plants:

• State-of-the-art diesel engines built by Mitsui Engineering and Shipbuilding Co. (MES) under license from MAN B&W

• Extremely low maintenance costs

• Successful operation on heavy and non-commercial grades of fuel, including refinery bottom residuals and Orimulsion

• Superior electrical efficiency, even after many years of operation

• Highest level of availability and reliability

• Extended life cycle.
